Allison Grows in Her Faith

Allison (middle) has seen lots of growth in her faith this semester!

“I’m so excited. This is my first Bible study…ever!” Allison (pictured above in the middle, next to Cameron) said while we stood outside in the dark with hundreds of dorm students, wondering when we’d be let back into the dorm lounge after a fire drill sent us outside. This was my first time meeting Allison, and I (Cameron) was so excited that she was here, and so bummed that instead of opening our Bibles, we were waiting in the dark. It didn’t faze Allison though; she was taking a step of faith and ready to be with others learning from the Bible. So, our group moved under the yellow glow of a light pole, and that’s how we spent our first study of the year, sitting in the grass of the dorm commons, reading about the good news of Jesus for all to see!

Allison grew up in a culturally Catholic home, with little instruction in faith beyond some prayers that her grandmother had taught her and occasionally attending mass. During the Covid-19 shutdown, she became more spiritually curious and determined to learn about God and faith, so she turned to TikTok. Through that, God used media influencers to teach her that faith looks more like a relationship. That jumpstarted her desire to read the Bible, but she was pretty alone in her journey. After hearing about Cru at a new student event in the spring, and coming to our first Bible study in the fall, Allison joined one of the discipleship groups I’ve been leading this semester. We’ve been discussing how faith in Jesus impacts every area of our lives.

During the last week of school, as my discipleship groups met to celebrate what God has done over the semester, Allison shared that on a recent visit home, one of her younger sisters had some spiritual questions. Allison had been wanting to share about Jesus with her sisters and this was the perfect opportunity. She pulled out a diagram about life in Christ that I had shared with her, and walked through it with her sister! Her sister said that it made so much sense! Allison’s excitement to grow in her relationship with Jesus and to share it with those around her has been such a fun thing to witness! Thank you so much for being part of the growth in her faith this semester!

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Praise God for pursuing Allison and bringing her to our study this year! Praise Him for growing her and using her in her family!
  • Pray for all of our students during their break. Pray that it would be a time of growth and rest for them, and that God would use them as a blessing to their families.
  • Pray for our upcoming Winter Conference on MLK weekend. Sac Cru is joining with students from all over the west coast (8+ states) for a weekend of worship, teaching from the Word, evangelism, and community! Pray for safe travels and for students to grow in faith!
